Where Care Meets Craft
Hi! Weâre Lauren and Margaret. We came together because we believe patients deserve more than basic careâthey deserve to feel whole, respected, and comforted during their most vulnerable moments.
For Lauren, that calling runs deep. A third-generation nurse, she grew up in a family where caregiving was a way of life. From her grandmother and mother, she learned that true caregiving embraces the whole personâtheir needs, strengths, and humanityâbeyond the diagnosis. That lesson became personal when her mother-in-law, Maryellen, was diagnosed with cancer. Even in her hardest days, Maryellen wanted to feel dignified, self-reliant, and true to herself. Seeing her in a gown that offered no dignity or comfort was heartbreakingâand became the spark for Laurenâs vision.
To bring it to life, Lauren sought a partner who could translate compassion into design. Thatâs where Margaret comes in. A third-generation maker, she grew up sewing alongside her mother and grandmother, carrying forward their legacy of creating with skill and soul. She built her career in New York City, mastering sustainable design, before returning home to launch her studio.
Together, Lauren and Margaret have woven their two worldsânursing and design, caregiving and craftsmanshipâinto Untethered. Every gown reflects that partnership: clinically functional, beautifully made, and rooted in dignity. Untethered honors the patients who wear the gowns, the hands who craft them, and the families who walk beside them. The mission is simple yet deeply personal: to restore dignity, comfort, and humanity, one gown at a time.
